Attention all artists! In case you haven't noticed yet, the main Brawl in the Family page now has a Fan Works section for your enjoyment. Right now, it's a little empty, and I'd like for you guys to fill it!
So we've decided to feature an art competition once a month, every month. The winner will be immortalized in BitF history by having his or her art forever featured in the Fan Works section! But remember--we'll need a solid number of entries to work with, so if we don't get enough for the month, we might have to judge those entries with the next month's.
This week's contest, due to starting late, will be ending Sept 6 instead of Sept 1.
Now then, onto DA RULES:
-Any and all media is fine. Draw/scan, paint, do digital images, whatever! You can post big ol' wallpaper-sized images or even straight-up comics! The only limit is your imaaagination.
-Keep it pleasant. For content, a good rule of thumb is don't show or say anything in the art that you'd never find in a Nintendo-published game or a BitF strip. So keep it a light PG at worst, please.
-It should be original! Mash-ups and borrowed Nintendo art (including sprites) probably won't win you any awards. It's possible someone might do something extremely creative by using official art, but for the most part it'd be best to avoid this.
-Post it here! You may email or PM us images if you'd like, but it's easiest if you just post your artwork here in this thread for judging. Deadlines will be 11:59 PM on the last day of the month in question.
Chris and I will be taking a good, long look at all the entries... or a cursory glance, as the case may be. :P They'll be judged on composition, adherence to the theme, use of color/shading (if applicable), use of humor (if applicable), and just...like, if it's any good.
Also, feel free to submit multiple entries, but you're limited to three per contest! If you want to submit more than that, you'll have to pick which three you'd like us to judge.
Now then, let's get onto the current contest--AUGUST 2010! Now that the movie poster-style images have come and gone, it's time to bend reality as we know it.
This month's theme:
Make an "alternate historical era" image involving some of the BitF cast!
What do I mean by that? Think of any era in history. That's fair game. Here are a few themes to consider to get those creative juices flowing:
-Western (BitF Trail art is all applicable!)
-Medieval (knights, armor, castles, lush fields)
-Prehistoric (dinosaurs, cavemen, mammoths)
-Roman (colosseums, gladiators, art)
-Feudal Japan (cherry blossoms, samurais, tea houses)
-Victorian era (powdered wigs, classical music, tights)
...and so on. No future stuff, though! That'll probably be for a later contest.
So go nuts and stuff! Consider how well certain characters may fit certain themes, and make some magic like you guys've done the past few months. I'm looking forward to the entries!
