Go and ponder your name while you're at it. (Suggestion: Dave Strider)
Don't expect anything to make sense. That way you'll be pleasantly surprised if it does.

Deciding it best to stay with the only living creature you've seen so far, you hurry to catch up. The ethereal hue of your surroundings again pick up the closer you draw to the animal, which does bring you a bit of comfort in spite of the otherwise alien nature of your surroundings.

You can't help but feel like something is off in all this. You mind draws up blank after blank as you dwell on your past. You know things, like "what color is the sky" or "what does that creature resemble"; but when you try to think of where or when you would have learned that you're at a loss. It's something called Amnesia, a term you again are baffled at knowing, but somehow not. It doesn't feel as if you can't remember anything, but more like you have nothing to remember in the first place. A blank slate if you will. If you're going to start from scratch you better pick a name. Dave Strider seems as good as any. For now you'll be Dave.

Having finally reached the flitting critter, you find yourself in a new environment. It resembles something like a clearing in a field, but the grass seems to surge with life; moving and swaying on its own accord, shifting around even under your feet. The sky is vibrant as well, lit with the glow of countless stars swirling through the cosmos. "I see you took your sweet time sleepyhead. But some things can be forgiven I suppose when you're busy soaking everything up." The creature smiled. "I've prepared some tea and snacks for you to build your energy on. They're right over there."

A table and seat had materialized to your right while you focused on what was being said, and sure enough there was a rather delicious looking assortment of goodies spread across the surface. Aside from the treats, there was also a curious little red box resting on a platter, tied with a neat white bow."In case you were wondering, my name is Nagi." It added.

"I'm Dave." you reply as you take the seat.

"Alright, 'Dave'." It says with a laugh. "I've got a problem for you. Everyone is suppose to bring a gift to the party you see, it's asurprise party! The problem is that I actually thought of another present that might be better for you to bring, but you'll have to wait for me to go get it if we choose that present instead. The red present on that dish is our current gift."

"Now, don't tell me which present we should bring until you've eaten, but let me make it clear that whatever present you choose will make a big impression on everyone else. So think carefully!"

As you nod in understanding, you turn your mind to the refreshments. The food is all comes with space themed names it seems. While the platter under the giftbox is decently sized, you find that the other plates are dwarfed in comparison, and likewise the cups are as well. It seems that you'll at the very most be able to pick out one item from the confections, and one flavor of tea. You'll have to decide carefully.

Of the confections you may pick:
    Black hole Donuts
    Milky way Cheesecake
    Nova Tarts
    Nebula Wafers

    And the tea flavors include:
    Slumbering Red Giant
    Stardust Daybreak
    Waning Moonbeams
    Messier Crash

There's a lot to choose from for sure, what looks good to Dave Strider?

You help yourself to a portion of the cheesecake. It's creamy and mellow with just the right balance of sweetness to enjoy every bite. The tea you chose had a more powerful, energizing flavor to it. Just sipping it made you want to jump out of your chair and do anything, bring it on!

Nagi had the right idea, with your spirits lifted you had pepped up quite a bit now. Seeing that pep, the catlike host approached you. "That sure hit the spot, didn't it? If you're content maybe we could consider that little dilemma I mentioned earlier. What do you think?"

Nagi tilted its head in expectation for your reply. Would you bring the red present with you and head to the party now, or wait for Nagi to return with the other gift instead and come in fashionably late. Either way it doesn't look like It is planning to leave until you give it an answer.

You decide it won't be a very big issue if you miss a few minutes, and request that Nagi go fetch the other present.

"Alright then. I'll be back in two shakes of a whisker! Don't go missing on me." Nagi smiled as it fluttered out into the distance. You noted that this time its departure had no effect on your surroundings, the jury was out on what that meant.

Minutes passed without event, leaving you rather restless. It was quiet, silent actually. You considered trying to take a nap, but with the tea you drank you couldn't see that happening.

But finally, after seemingly ages past, you hear the telltale squeak of the long away Nagi. "Did you miss me? I hope so! They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, but I don't see how that has anything to do with it."

Ignoring the cheeky remark, you mention that Nagi doesn't seem to have the present with it. Perhaps it was dropped?

"Wow, get the sand out of your eyes already." Nagi retorted at the notion "Can't you see right infront of your own nose Dave?" Looking around, you spot the platter holding the red present had been swapped with another, a blue wrapped box with a black silky bow on top. Attached to one of the two loops was a white label, it read 'Dave Strider' in sharp black cursive. Nagi seemed to have switched the two gifts while you were distracted once again.

"Alright, we're all set to go Dave! Are you ready for the party of your life, I sure am! But you know..." Nagi's voice dropped to a lull, drawing closer to you as if to tell a secret that shouldn't get out. "It's only fair to tell you that present there... Is really super duper special. Like the wowiest of wow." A mischevious chesire grin had begun to curl across Nagi's face. "Whoever gets that present is going to be really, really surprised when they open it, and they'll know it was you who gave it to them. That's why it took so long to bring it back, and that's why I put your name on it."

"It's true we could keep it a surprise, but if you knew how nice that gift was you could make sure it got to somebody who really deserves it. But you won't get another chance to take a peek once we're there. You'll be zipping about, making friends and having too much fun to find the time to. Do you want to take that risk? I'll be waiting up ahead. Bring the present with you once you're ready, Okay buddy?"

That must be some present. Nagi obviously knows what's inside since, it was hand picked presumably by Nagi itself. But did that whole conversation seem a little, taunting? It really wanted you to see what was in there and so far Nagi hasn't done anything to raise any real suspicion until now. Curiousity can be a double-edged blade, especially since you don't know if the present inside is even good or bad. For all you know you could be handing Prometheus' Flame or Pandora's Box to someone you haven't even met.

    Should you open the box?

Throw caution into the wind and keep it a surprise. Nagi seems to have some sort of plan though, ask him some questions about what's going on.

(Majority wins. The box shall remain closed.)

Error falls upon the foolish, you reason. If push comes to shove you can at the very least try to ensure that proper caution is used once you have a better grasp of the situation.

Pocketing the gift carefully under arm you join up with Nagi. At first glace you can tell it's already disappointed to see the present had been untampered. "Aww. Where your sense of excitement?" It pouts upsetly. "Oh well. The anticipation won't kill me. Just don't go thinking I'll spill the beans cause you wouldn't." Without skipping a beat the wispurr(as we'll call it for now) bounced back to its aloof self, Nagi lead the way through the field. Seeing this as a good time to try gleaning some info out of the guide, you pose a few questions. Your first question is what's going on.

"I told you already, we're going to a surprise party. When we get there you'll meet a lot of people just like you. You'll play games, and win prizes, and have all sorts of fun! I'm almost jealous. Almost! And just wait until you meet King K-Oops!" Nagi gasped and raised a covering wing. "Said too much."

King K. Hmm... You likely won't get any more out of that direction of thought, but it did turn up some interesting information. You'll have to keep an eye out for whomever that could be.

In the meantime, maybe we can try to pry another secret out of Nagi. What else can you talk about?

Ask Nagi how it knows who you are.
You change the subject to how Nagi knows who you are. You can't seem to recall though, which seems a bit odd in your opinion.

Nagi however seems unconcerned. "Oh I wouldn't worry about all that. You can hurt yourself trying to solve silly puzzles with no answer; So why risk it right?"

You overstep the wispurr and block the way. You repeat your concern. Despite attempts to weave, dodge, and fake out the barrier, Nagi is unable to contain its frustration at your barrier.

"Come on Dave... Don't be like that." Nagi whined. "I've been trying to make our first day together the best it can be, and you're too concerned with trying to walk backwards through a wall to really enjoy it." Nagi let a long sigh out. "Oh well. So much for that. If you want the truth you're on your own, but don't say I didn't warn you if you find out something you wish you didn't."

It didn't feel like you had gotten any closer to an answer, all that was really accomplished was making the fairy-cat thing upset. The rest of the trek was unceremonious and quiet, Nagi wasn't in much of a chatty mood anymore. The trek left you to your thoughts until dawn encroached the horizon about half an hour later. At last Nagi spoke up "Alright, we're here."

    "Where's here?" You asked.

"The Party. One more thing though before you run off to have fun." Although you couldn't see the expression on the creature's face as it sensed your creeping alarm, the preposition's tone in Nagi's words curled in a way that immediatedly brought memories of that cheshire grin from earlier. "Try to keep dry."

Your body instinctively braced itself for the worst as you felt your core viciously shake from within. It feeling of being ripped like a paper saw the light, the field, and Nagi out of your vision to be replaced by feelings of cold, darkness, and wetness. Your knees buckled from the force and taste of mud filled your mouth in your faceplant to the earth. You weren't surprised, or even angry at these events. The only feeling you could comprehend was the intense nausea permeating your body. All you could focus on was trying to reassert yourself to your new surroundings. Two facts dawned very quickly on you. First, The present was missing along with Nagi; and second, It was raining heavily. Amidst the flashes of lightning you learned a additional fact. Standing before you was the imposing silhouette of a large castle, gates already open as a scouting party approached.

    Prologue End

Chapter 1: The Castle in the Rain

The pitter-pattering of raindrops echo from the roof above, only being drowned out by the warm flame across the room. You rise from the dry bed you had found yourself in to see that been moved out of the rain. Intuition tells you that this is that castle you had seen earlier. How you got there you figure was thanks to the crowd that was approaching you rising to your feet you begin to examine the room around you.

There is a window above the bed, but it's more of a slit in the wall than anything. From what you manage to make out tells you that you are somewhere on an upper floor and a forest lies in the distance. Resting by the fireplace you find a stack of metal items wrapped in cloth, likely to protect them from rust.

The door knocks and opens. From the darkness of the hall outside you're unable to discern the form of the visit, but you arm immediately taken aback by the sight of two glowing pink eyes locked on you in the shadows. "It's good to see that you're recovering well." The phantom in the dark says in a soothing voice. "Of everyone that has arrived so far you seemed to have had the worst reaction to shifting. I would consider finding time to make the effort for the mess you left on Rotin's plate mail coming in."

Upon entering the room you find the imposing eyes belong to a woman, slender framed and adorned in a mint green labcoat, wearing it over a white dress. Aside from the aformentioned pink eyes the rest of her body was bleach white like her. "My name is Acheron Solana, let me be the first to welcome you to your new home."

"Dave Strider." you reply confusedly. " Now what do you mean by Home? What about the party?"

"Oh, the party is waiting downstairs. I can take you down if you feel up to joining the rest of us." She offered politely.

In a way Acheron reminds you a bit of a lower key Nagi, without the whole manic-pixie thing going on. She does seem to have a better grasp on the situation at hand then you do, so at the very least you should be able to learn something from her by asking a question or two.

Thoughts turn to the creature that had lead you to this castle, only to vanish. "Is Nagi here?" You ask.

Acheron shakes her head. "No, I'm afraid not. I know who you're talking about though. We've all met that creature at one point or another. From what we gathered from our various accounts, Nagi guides us only so far and then leaves us to our own devices here. Nobody has seen it since arriving at this eternally gloomy castle."

So everyone here has met Nagi then? It doesn't sound like it's very consistant though. You ask what she meant by 'one point or another.'

"Well for example, You met Nagi yesterday. I on the otherhand had my encounter nearly two months ago." She shrugged. "It's sporadic to say the least."

Two months? What? Just what was going on here?
