Greetings, folks!  Matthew’s out of town, so I’ll be holding down the fort for the next few days.  I hope you’ll be able to tolerate my blind speculation regarding Matthew’s train of thought behind the new comics.  Please bear with me.

Matthew often exhibits some measure of alarming enthusiasm when he gets a simple yet effective idea like the one in today’s comic.  He’s always mindful to avoid rehashing jokes or overusing strip concepts, so when it comes to “Kirby eats something” gags, he’s very hesitant to go with an idea unless it provides a new and unique twist on the formula in some way..  I sympathize with Dedede here; I don’t know about you, but I would find it difficult to avoid eating a marshmallow Kirby if I saw one.

Too bad Dedede can’t copy Kirby’s abilities.  If he could, would he turn into a marshmallow Dedede with bunny ears?  Or, maybe the recessive chocolate gene from the original bunny would resurface, freezing the penguin in a coffin of creamy cocoa.  I think the sacrifice in one’s flexibility would be a pretty big drawback to being made out of chocolate.
