Not that I mind so much that Ruto and Jabu-Jabu made Zoras forever hideous, but they could at least have disciplined them better! On a side note, Jabu-Jabu is proposing in the same manner that I did.

The main bug’s design isn’t really based on a particular foe from StarFox Assault, but I’ve always had trouble remembering cannon fodder from StarFox games, really. Either way, it’s too bad this never happened in the game; I bet Slippy has some crazy tongue-snatching skills. The sci-fi serial presentation of this strip works better if you imagine heroic music suddenly playing during the first and last panels.

When are we gonna get a new StarFox anyway? I imagine my opinion that StarFox 64 has yet to be topped is not a controversial one.

About time these two NES bosses started hanging out again. Pandora hadn’t returned Fry Guy’s calls for 25 years!

This strip had sort of an unusual development process. I started by sketching Fry Guy and Pandora complaining about a movie, and just sort of made the rest up as I went. I ended up liking the idea of a water boss being annoying to them so much that the final comic practically has the same dialogue as the initial pencil sketch, verbatim. Improv night at BitF, I suppose.

Taking a stab at something new here! So, I’d never played a Fire Emblem game until I got Sacred Stones as part of the 3DS’s Ambassador Program. Lo and behold, I rather like it, but I still find it a pretty difficult series to make comics about (also, drawing more realistically-proportioned humans has never been a strong point for me). But nevertheless, the series deserves some BitF representation, so here’s a strip about pretty much how I play the game–by avoiding my actual strong units in favor of beefing up my weaklings. This tactic often leads to a lot of deaths and resets, but so it goes!

Also…yeah, I completely forgot Fire Emblem in The History of Nintendo. FE fans (and Pikmin fans, and StarFox fans) certainly noticed. Sorry about that!

It feels like it’s been so long since a “normal” comic update! I’ve been playing Kid Icarus Uprising and it’s really solid. The writing and characters remind me of a really good Saturday morning cartoon, and they’re so packed with personality that it makes me wonder if I can even do justice to them in comic form!

Oh, and I think the Fiend’s Cauldron/Intensity meter aspect of the game is a stroke of genius. Really, 91 difficulty levels wrapped in an addictive risk/reward system? Sign me up! Today’s strip is for all of those brave souls out there who’ve taken the 9.0 intensity challenge (that’s pretty much my face during the flying sections). This strip pretty much goes in a path you’d expect, but I dig the idea of a mundane, anachronistic swingset being altered in such a drastic way.

The site is a bit messy at the moment and I’ve really fallen behind on emails! I’ll be doing my best for the next few weeks to catch up on…well, a LOT of stuff I need to catch up on. I feel like the kid that’s gotta make up a full semester of missed homework.

By the way, I had a great time meeting some of you guys at UBCon last weekend! Thanks for stopping by to attend my panel, discuss my comic, and see me attempt to reenact the entire first and last cutscenes of The Faces of Evil (I think there’s a video of it floating around out there somewhere). It’s always a pleasure to chat with you guys and I’d love to be a guest at more conventions in the future!

Thursday, April 12 — 12:00 AM

We’re back, baby!

First up–major thanks to the many, many kind souls across the world (from Sweden to Brazil to England to Canada to Mexico, etc) who sent me well-wishes, images, and gifts throughout this entire ordeal. You guys are the best fans in the world and have really helped me deal with all the misery I’ve been putting up with lately. I’m still going through hundreds (!) of emails, but I’m definitely going to read them all!

Second–Chris and I will be attending a con this weekend, UB Con in the University of Buffalo, New York! Be sure to stop by if you’re in the area and say hi.

Third, onto the comic. This has actually been in the works for a very long time (I had the refrain down over a year ago and considered doing it for comic 300) and I really wanted to go all-out with the idea. I tried to cram in as much Nintendo goodness as possible for a brief tour through history, so I hope the journey was both entertaining and educational. It’s the seventh BitF song, but only the second that’s a fully original melody, and by far the longest-running and longest-taking-to…make. So yeah, lots of hidden nods and references here and there for those that feel like lookin’. And the YouTube page has the lyrics if you need them! Many thanks to my fiancé, Sarah, for her tireless editing of the video, and my dad for the excellent trumpet and trombone riffs.

Fourth–Kid Icarus: Uprising is great fun! Check it out if you haven’t yet, and expect comics about it.

Fifth–Yes, I’m still sick, but I’m feeling better each day and barring any emergencies, I can work on the comic again. Updates will be Tuesdays and Fridays once again (I wrote the wrong thing in the last update).

Thanks for all the support. We’re back in action, so we’ll see you next week!
