Kiritsugu is my favourite character. He knows what his goals are and does everything necessary to reach them. He doesn't play fair because playing fair is a sure way to give someone else the chance to win. He's very similar to saber. He is willing to sacrifice everything for his goal - Saber sacrificed everything she had to serve her country. Very beautiful.

Anyway, I just watched the new episode, and yeah, I second Lancer deserving a better death than that. The whole thing was tragic, I guess (especially how Kayneth actually did something vaguely redeeming by sacrificing the Grail for his fiancee, even though it was an unrequited love), but since two of the three characters who died were dicks, it wasn't as sad as it could've been.

Gotta say, I forgot how much I enjoyed Maiya. Slicing off Sola's arm? Badass.

I'm honestly not sure what to think about the whole Kiritsugu thing. On one hand, I really like that they're bringing out his anti-hero side (what are you doing to my concept of morality Urobuchi ;-; ) but at the same time, I guess there's a really fine line to walk between making Kiritsugu a fascinating dark hero and making him cross some sort of moral event horizon which just makes you lose all sympathy for him.

And I'm still really hoping that Gate of Babylon vs. Ionian Hetairoi happens.

As for Kiritsugu, I think they're doing a pretty good job so far. That speech to Saber (Or Iri, considering) was very well spoken- definitely enough to make me feel sorry for the guy. Also, didn't Rider imply that the attack on Cthulhu would deplete the soldiers in his reality marble? Unless they regenerate, I'm not entirely sure on Ionian Hetairoi's mechanics.

    &&&&, son.

    &&&&.

This episode was crazy. Anyway, I feel that Kiritsugu is someone I can feel bad for. I mean, you guys have seen the episode where he's asking Iri if they can take Illyasviel and just run away from it all, right? Whenever I find myself thinking they've pushed him past the point of me being able to feel sorry for him, I remember that. I remember what Kiritsugu is like when he doesn't have his dead eyes on. I think that helps.

Anyway, the last speech was really well done, and it was interesting to see Saber going from "oh my god this man is a monster" to "...but what made him a monster".

And he's still not as bad as Gilles in that regard. And we all felt bad for him so shut up

So guys, what would your ideal english dub be? Any particular actors that you'd like to see playing certain characters?

    Myself:

    -Kiritsugu: Crispin Freeman
-Maiya: Claudia Black or Colleen Clickenbeard
-Irisviel: Laura Bailey (Her work as Maka tells me she could definitely do well here, plus Lust and a few others), or maybe Jennifer Hale
-Ilya: Stephanie Sheh (was the one voice in the F/SN dub I could stand)
    Saber: Gray DeLisle
    -Tokiomi: Tom Kane
-Gilgamesh: Troy Baker (I really think that he could pull this off)
    -Kirei: Daran Norris
    -Assassin: The whole damn cast
-Uryuu: Johnny Yong Bosch (Izaya tells me he can do good crazy, plus his I'm-so-nice voice fits well) or if you're not fond of that, Todd Haberkorn
    -Caster: Mark Hamill
-Kayneth: Kirk Thornton (Just sorta clicked for me)
-Sola: Wendee Lee (taking the job of another starving voice actor)
    -Lancer: Chris Patton
-Rider: Cameron Clarke or maybe John DiMaggio
-Waver: Yuri Lowenthal (I don't know why and this will anger people but I can't get him speaking with Lowenthal's voice out of my head now)
    -Kariya: Steve Blum
    -Berserker: Samuel L. Jackson

So... yeah. Who would you guys want as the cast?

    What.

    What.

No, really, I'm interesting in hearing the reasoning here.

And this reminds me of something else - who here wasn't prematurely spoiled on Berserker's identity?

You know that it would be awesome. Don't try to deny it.

Actually, that one was a joke, mainly because I couldn't think of anyone else. I'm almost certain that Berserker will be getting a few last words, but whatever.

    Also because
    Lancelot
being black would have been even funnier than Arthur being a girl.

And also because I once recalled someone saying 'Jackson is at his best when he is screaming' during a Phantom Menace review, so.... who screams the most among Fate/Zero? Berserker.

I got spoiled for the identity by TVTropes, myself.

Well it's about time that happened. Tokiomi wasn't my favorite character so I don't really feel too bad for him, even his departure scene with his family didn't seem that... meaningful.

Oh and gee the scene with Irisviel, gosh that was pretty sad
i can't take off the yuri goggles

And I'm generally unspoiled on most everything so Berserker's identity is still a mystery to me, so I guess that's good.

Ah, I was craving a good episode with Gil and Kirei. Good to see that something finally happened with that, and I definitely enjoyed this one. Even if the symbolism of Kirei literally stabbing Tokiomi in the back with a Tohsaka family dagger was painfully heavy-handed.

Anybody else extremely amused by Gilgamesh teleporting around the room in various poses in the plotting scene? It wasn't just me, right?

No, it wasn't just you. Was I the only one who was laughing hysterically at the various innuendos that he was throwing around, or was that just the effect of the nico nico comments?

Kerry used to be such a happy child.

Like the people on Nico were saying, this would have been a really cool short story/movie all on its own. Just make a coupla tweaks, add a little, and bam!

Also Natalia is Gil's descendent. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

    I like Nico's commenters though

Yeah, Kerry was such an adorable child, as was Shirley. I just wish that we could have seen her death - it would have been a great storytelling tactic, and I'm surprised that the Urobutcher chose to let us go without it.

Anyway, yeah, this ep was cute (young Kerry is strangely easy to like). I was expecting Kerry's backstory to be adorable, but then... uh, holy &&&&. Anyway, the next ep looks to be even better. Looking forward to seeing Kiritsugu turn into the morally ambiguous guy we all know and... uh, have mixed opinions on.

Honestly think Shirley is one of the most adorable characters I've seen in a while. ...Shame she had to go through that.

As for Natalia, my first thought was basically: "Oh, so that's why Kiritsugu loves guns. He was saved by a rule 63 of Dante."

But &&&&, I did not expect Kiritsugu to have the balls to kill his dad. I suppose it had a lot to do with his dad's role in Shirley's death and subsequent neutrality to it, but damn, son.
