Alternatively, to fit the style of the games, he doesn't have a visible body. All one sees is a floating suit of armor with a gun.

Play moar 3D Pokemon games, then =P in Colosseum and Battle Revolution, they're flat. Smash Bros. is a 3D game. Do the math.

One thing I've been noticing about this thread... a lot of the things mentioned aren't impossible or even that unlikely (Simon Belmont? You REALLY think he's anywhere close to being unlikely? The only mark against him is there's already a Konami character in Snake). Sakurai had a pretty basic criteria for 3rd Party characters: they have to have had a game on a Nintendo system, and the 3rd Party company has to be interested in allowing their character into the game as well as Nintendo wanting to put it in in the first place... I can't remember if being a character that originated in a video game is a qualification as well, but that's something that I could certainly see being ignored for certain characters. Someone mentioned Mickey Mouse, and even though he didn't originate in a video game, if that is one of the set qualifications I could quite honestly see it being ignored if Disney were to actually approach Nintendo; Mario vs Mickey Mouse would be almost as good a marketing strategy as Mario vs Sonic.

So yeah, there are MANY suggestions in here that aren't actually impossible. Are many quite improbable? Yes, very much so, but this topic is asking for impossible things! I mean, I can't imagine Cradily (let's just use him as an example because he was just mentioned and because I like the thing) ever being a playable character because its not a logical idea, the thing isn't even a mobile pokemon. As unlikely as it is, technically its 100% possible; Nintendo owns all rights to Cradily, after all, and if Cradily's popularity were to skyrocket worldwide and prove to be a sure-fire money maker for Nintendo? Regardless of how strange a playable character it would be, Nintendo would give us playable Cradily. Remember that the guy in charge of Smash is the guy who thought "random tripping is a great thing to add!", "let's have a story mode, but all of the most important cutscenes to help you understand what's happening are cut!", and "most final smashes won't have anything to do with their actual user!"... Sakurai's kind of a nutjob, so even outside of this theoretical world where Cradily is a worldwide phenomenon, Cradily is still not an impossible suggestion. Quite honestly, aside from Snake and Sonic returning, every Nintendo owned character is automatically more likely than any given 3rd party character just by virtue of being owned by Nintendo. Want proof? Just look to the interviews where there was interest in Megaman being in Brawl on both sides (Sakurai and Capcom both expressed interest in Megaman as a playable character), but neither side acted on that interest. A character who was considered a given by many ever since 3rd Party Characters were added to the mix, but he had zero chance of getting in because both sides were stupid about matters. Without negotiations you'll never get a third party character, but Nintendo wouldn't look at a list of obscure characters it actually owns and say "HMMM, we would love to be able to use Bio Rex in Smash Bros, but that would be such a hassle to include due to all the legal hurdles we would have to maneuver through!"


So from here on out let's try to stick to suggestions that are currently impossible (things that have not been on Nintendo consoles, such as Master Chief, Nathan Drake, and Team Fortress 2 characters) and essentially impossible (things that fit the qualifications but are very unlikely to happen, such as Banjo & Kazooie, which is totally possible but Nintendo isn't likely to pay their direct competitor Microsoft just for the right to put a character in a game), okay?
