Actually, going to make a quick edit to the rules to make things a bit easier for those who don't play as many characters:
If you lose the set, you don't have your characters eliminated.

Today's tourney turned out pretty well! We got 9 people, which made for a slightly awkward bracket, but no matter.

Note: Skyward Strike didn't enter. He was replaced by a player named Conor, but the bracket had already been made and I couldn't change it.

Well, that was an interesting tourney. It was interesting how various people used their characters... Detta never actually used ROB (his Jigglypuff lost to my Olimar), whereas Brawler used so many characters he was fighting me with Captain Falcon in loser's semis! (It was surprisingly close, but then I realized just how badly shield grabs countered his dash attack approaching.) I started with my 5th best or so and leveled up. Aside from my loss against Steam, I went from Falco to Yoshi to Olimar to Pika, before falling back a bit on Marth vs Yoshistar.

Also, I definitely need to try my Pika against Steam soon, he turned out to be far, FAR better than I would have guessed. (I looked at the bracket and went "Nice, easy ride to winner's finals." NOPE!) We have to get Papero to record some matches against him, this could be some of the best play BitF has ever witnessed.

Well, I guess I'll do what Nick did since there isn't any other good thread to say this.

So Canada won SSB64, Europe (IIRC Norway is where Armada is from) won Melee, and Japan completely destroyed in Brawl and took everything possible.
Sad day for the US. All we did was destroy the world in the Melee crew battle.
Super duper props to Nairo, he should be an inspiration to anyone playing on here. He's 15 years old and currently the best brawl player in all of North America. He's also the third best in the world. M2K, the previous best brawl player ended up in 13th place after being destroyed by Ocean, Japan's best R.O.B., who then went on to get double 3-stocked by ADHD the Diddy main.
Grand Finals was Nietono vs Otori and Otori wasn't going to just lose to an Olimar he'd played before after beating his way through to GF.
Doubles Grand Finals was Otori (who just finished up Singles GF) and his brother Kakera against Mew2King and Anti. Quadruple Meta Knight. It ended 3-2 in Japan's favor because M2K killed Anti with a glide attack when everybody had one stock left in the last game of the set.

Yep.

Also everybody is SERIOUSLY questioning the MK ban now that we know the world is fighting back. The issue right now is between saving Brawl's scene in the US or keeping the US a viable competitor on the international level since nobody else is banning him.
I'm personally not sure what to think now, especially considering an Olimar main made it into 2nd place against the world's best MK mains.

Heh, I think Olimar is much better than previously thought, and will probably become the new dominant character if the ban stays. He's got no really bad match ups, isn't that hard to learn, and is a pain for a lot of characters to fight (including Pikachu. Better keep practicing my secondaries.). Also, ESAM got 4th place, which is really good considering how stacked the tourney was (Those IC dittos in loser's quarters were absolutely hilarious to watch), outplacing every American except Nairo (where did he come from anyway? I knew he had a decent MK, but not that good!).

And Melee GF were an abomination. Instead of a fast paced match with awesome combos, we got to see more camping than any brawl match and FOUR consecutive time outs. I think the entire brawl scene was rooting for Armada just so it'd be over quickly.

Not likely. I think it was more that Nietono just completely outplayed the other players. Japan has a completely different playstyle from the rest of the world, and it seems like nobody was really used to it (except Otori, of course, since he beat Neitono in GF).

And you've... Never seen HungryBox play before, have you? This is like the third or fourth time that Armada and HungryBox have met up in the finals of a big tournament and gone YLink vs Jiggs. Matches basically always go to time. IMO, this is the best time out that they've ever shared (and I linked to a skip to the last 20 seconds or so). IIRC it's the first time Armada actually beat HBox though.
And if anybody ever wondered why my Jigglypuff tag is usually "HBox", that is why.

I've been away these past few days, busying watching APEX and AGDQ, so I haven't had a theme idea. So this week, January 14, 2012, will just be a plain old Vanilla tourney. Bring your Olimars to the table and fight the power of MKs.

@Steam I only heard that he won, I don't think the vids are even up yet. But considering the pic from the R.O.B. boards that was posted it looked like it was an amazingly close victory.

Ocean is the japanese guy standing up with the striped shirt, M2K is the blond guy in the jacket sitting next to him. There's a bunch of other amazing players there too, including the winner of APEX, Otori, who's on the far right in a plain white shirt.

Still, Ocean beating M2K means he was either seriously off his game or that Ocean just played a whole different R.O.B. from Chibo.
