This month, our artists delved into the third dimension for the first time, exploring new and compelling depths thanks to the newly-released Nintendo 3DS. The theme was open to interpretation as long as it did something with the Z-axis, and we got some varied entries as usual! Let's see what our entrants came up with.
Arend's entry
Master Belch doesn't seem to understand how the 3DS's AR cards work, aiming the camera at himself rather than the card. Come on, Master Belch - it's not that hard! Plug in the lamp, at least! It's a nice-looking entry that includes Master Belch, and we like Master Belch.
BlueberryPancake's entry
Dedede delights in tormenting Kirby in any way possible, so he's surely getting lots of devious delight from Kirby's AR card! The clever idea is supported by very cute art and attractive coloring. Poor AR-Kirby is going to have an even tougher time when he realizes that he can't eat anything at all.
Detta's entry
These Nintendo heroes don't seem to pleased with this 3D treatment! The message of the piece seems a bit open to interpretation. Fortunately, the 3DS's technology is a lot more advanced than those red and blue 3D glasses, so perhaps the image is illustrating the leap forward that the 3DS represents.
dfrogmatt's entry
The 3D film-viewing experience only seems to be pleasing a few of the characters in this sparsely-populated movie theater. Waluigi seems to be wondering why his glasses are red and blue instead of purple, Bowser's totally checked out, and Dedede looks like he doesn't even want to be there. The characters are drawn attractively and the silhouette of Eario adds a certain mystique to the broad job responsibilities he already has.
Fantos's entry
While Link's playing with the Altered Reality feature on his 3DS, a Floormaster appears in front of him. To assume that the Floormaster is part of the AR game is an understandable mistake, so Navi saves his skin by lettig him know that the Floormaster is actually there. It's a good thing that Link pressed the Up-C button when Navi said "Hey!" or else he'd be in a bit more trouble.
GigaNerd17's entry
This creative entry sticks Waluigi into a wide variety of 3DS games with humorous results. We liked seeing all the funny situations that Waluigi gets into and he's drawn in an appropriately wacky manner. Love it!
sevenstitch's entry
Waluigi solves the main problem that the old-style red and blue 3D glasses had, which was that they were not purple. By putting them over each other, glorious purple is achieved! A simple yet clever idea executed in a great way.
spacepig22's entry (waluigi in the 3ds) jpg
This entry makes me fearful about purchasing a 3DS. Somehow I think Nintendo's 3DS sales forecasts would drop like a rock if players had to worry about Waluigi popping out of their 3DS to harass them. Delightfully frightening!
Spazboy225's entry
Using the 3DS's grafitti feature, Spazboy225 has translated Snake's plump buttocks into the third dimension! It's too bad that we're all stuck with these outdated 2D computer monitors, because I'd really like to see this in 3D on the 3DS. Bringing those sculpted gleuts into 3D is worth a nomination any day of the week.
T-3000's entry ( so many kirbies) jpg
Kirby and Adeleine seem like a couple of jerks in this image, don't they? They're messing with Dedede by putting Kirby AR cards all over the place, which would probably drive Dedede crazy until he figured out that they're just AR cards and not actual Kirbies. The expressions on Kirby's and Adeleine's faces are kinda mean looking, so I just feel bad for Dedede here! A well-drawn and funny entry.
And the winner is...
BlueberryPancake's entry!
We were tickled by the cute expressions and charming art in this piece, and the concept is appealing and carried out quite well. Thanks again for everyone's entries! Head on over to this month's contest to let your creativity flow once again!
