Your entire party looks over the items for sale. You and your friends collectively decide to purchase a 2sweet4me potion, the Steamy Trinket, Nice Shades, and some Slogan Blades. Isra picks out the Gobberry Extract, Pwaaluigi still eyeing her with unwavering suspicion.
    -16520 Pwaants
    5900 Pwaants left
The tea Pwaaluigi gave you also fully healed you, you feel energized and clear. Pwaaluigi thanks you for the business, but you can still feel his gaze burning the back of Isra's neck as you leave. Hopefully next time he'll be a bit more nice.

You and your party are back in the sky, making quick time to the peak, which is now becoming more visible. At this rate, you'll be able to set up camp for the night and investigate the next morning! Apollo looks out of a pair of binoculars that he bought for himself at your last stop, trying his best to give you a description. At this point, the ground is almost completely covered in igneous rock.
"The peak looks like it's been taken and is sliding across the land, taking the mountain with it. It's also a weird color--for what we've seen up until now. It looks like an orangeish crystal. Um... here, you look."
You take the binoculars and look through them. He's right. There's a giant, orange crystal with creepy-looking purple lines running around it. Inside, or behind(?) it you think you see something moving, which would explain the whole deal. Looking at the ground, you also notice that it's stopped being all lava-y and is now looking like it's full of... tunnels? What? You look beyond the peak now and... oh dear.
"This can't be good." Amanda says. What you see approaching quickly is a large storm cloud, one you hadn't noticed before. Almost as if on cue, the winds pick up as well and the Flitter begins to wobble in the turbulence. "I'll land once we're close, hold on tight!" The Flitter goes full-throttle into the storm. Heavy rain begins to pelt your face and you see lightning flash in the distance. The winds pick up even more. Before any one of you can say "I think we should land" the Flitter suddenly looses control, plummeting to the ground. In an instant, Marshall uses his Water Magic to condense the rain below you to soften the fall, but when you hit the ground the Flitter stops with a horrid sound half between a crash and a screech. You all jump out of the now-wrecked Flitter, soaked the the bone by rain in a defeated silence. Not completely defeated though, looking onwards the huge crystal of the peak is only a little farther off. You can't keep going in this weather, though (as eluded to by Marshall) so you look for a place to rest. A cave in the side of the mountain you now notice looks safe and appealing enough, you and your party head there.

Inside the cave away from the rain, you all shake off the water dripping from of your clothes. Looking deeper into the cave, you can't quite see anything yet, but you feel the presence of someone, something... but you don't have time to be paranoid. Now is the time to wait out the storm.
Soon, everyone is sitting around a small campfire, the only sound being the awkward crackle of its flames and the stormy noises outside. Minutes pass, but it feels like hours until Marshall finally talks.
    "So... is everyone all right?"
He gets looks from Isra and Apollo seemingly saying 'But you sort of saved us a moment ago, and we're here with you now. Of course we're okay.' Even Amanda is trying to not give him a similar look as she responds, "Yeah, we're fine. You really helped us out back there, who knows if we'd even be alive right now if it wasn't for you. Sorry if we didn't say so before, and thank you."
Marshall grins to himself "Aw, shucks! It really was nothin'! ... Actually, it was darn right somethin', I'm still feeling a tad bushed. If it was any less rainy back there I'd 'prolly not be conscious right now to say it was, heh. I'm happy to help n' all, but--"
Marshall is cut off by a sudden rumble. For a split second it could be thunder, but behind you it becomes apparent that the mouth of the cave is beginning to close--rapidly! You're all speechless as your exit is blocked off by a resounding *BOOM*. Min zips out.
"Whoa. That was unexpected. If it makes you feel any better, I'll tell you that couldn't have been stopped, but something isn't right here. The entrance to this cave wasn't at all feeble, yet I'm only detecting signs of a regular cave... hmm."
Everyone goes "hmm" in unison. Now the fire crackle is definitely the only thing audible.

But even more sudden than the cave, a rough voice speaks out behind you, "Hey! Visitors!"
You whip around to face this new presence. How do you react?
(Also, did you change up your equipped gear at all in that time? Gear and items on BitF first page!)

    Re: OshaliteX2's CYOA of stuff.

A week ago I got what I consider to be a really cool idea for this part of the CYOA, but I'm only getting to the writing of it now. I just hope I don't mess it up...
Somewhere, somehow, someone pressed a button that switched up everyone's gear.
New loadouts can be found on BitF first page, and I'm sorry I keep putting everything there. :/
Some items and gear that haven't been used in a while also now have descriptions. I'll fill in those that don't next time I have the chance.

    BACK TO ADVENTURE
    -~-
You manage to suppress an extreme urge to scream EXTREMELY LOUDLY at the new face, and pose cooly and introduce yourself as honestly as possible. It's a old-ish looking man. Older than Marshall judging by looks. He's taller than you but shorter than Isra. He has sickly-looking extremely pale skin, a scruffy beard and graying hair with thin eyebrows high above his dark brown eyes in an excited-looking expression. His clothes look worn, but not dirty, and when he talks you notice his teeth aren't even that unkept-looking either. On his back, he carries a big backpack with a spear sticking out of it visibly. Now why would he need that? I doesn't look like anything else is here...
"Oh. So you go just by Ace? Well I guess that's more yourself than your real name. I'll call you Ruby, because I, frankly, don't give a darn."
You expect the guy to slap his knee or something and laugh at what you have to assume was a joke, but he keeps smiling at you with the same happy expression as before. You stay polite and begin to introduce the rest of your team, most of whom greet him rather politely. Isra especially.
"Greetings, mister. It is a pleasure to meet you. I am named Isra. You seem very kind, what would happen to be your name?"
"Ha!" His laugh is short, airy, and almost unnerving, "Aren't you just the cutest! It's been a while since I've seen a pretty penny like you in these caves. Call me Elliot!" He laughs again, "Heh... in fact, you people are the first living folks I've seen in just as long, too. I always find nice-looking folks just like you, but they're not quite so... alive! And friendly! Granted, you people probably haven't been here before... and you could be a bit more personable like your friend Isra here. But I'm happy for the company. I just call this nice place the Snake Caves. Welcome!"
    Area Discovered: Snake Caves
His words visibly unnerve the bulk of your group. You hear Marshall gulp and Apollo mumble something to Amanda. Elliot continues to talk.
"Not much for conversation, eh? Well you all mostly don't look very smart. That's fine by me! So I saw you guys get in from the outside? That's unfortunate, but it does make sense why I keep finding outsider people every now and then. I didn't know so many people passed by the peak to this mountain..."
"They don't." Amanda says to him, coming in front of you, "Where I'm from, it's told in stories from around the mountain that only select few are supposed to make their way to the top of the mountain. Even if you weren't to believe in the folk stories, the journey up is painstaking and difficult. People wouldn't just... go." She leans back and seems to think. Elliot's expression stays.
"So are you all done talking?" he soon says, "Your stories don't seem like much concern to me. But if what you say is right, then why are all you people here?"
Amanda sighs and tells him. His expression keeps, still. When she's done he gives a short response "Huh. Well, that's a better story than before."
Your party is silent again, this time longer than before. Elliot keeps his stoically excited eyes locked on your group. "Well now that you're here, you might as well get comfortable. You won't ever get out. I tried for a while, and it got me nothing."
"Wait!" Apollo speaks up, "Um, we probably could stay for a while, if you'd like,"
"Well I'll be the judge of that! So far you all seem a bit stale."
"Erm... ye--but do you know if these tunnels lead to the peak at all? We saw a big crystal-looking thing there earlier, and we assume that's what we should be targeting, and... er... getting rid of."
Elliot's expression suddenly droops. "And why do you want to know?" He says, his voice more serious.
    "Because it'll help the mountain?"
"Yeah I was gonna tell you anyway. Sure it does, but it's a ways on."
"Could you show us...?" Isra nods to support the suggestion. Elliot looks to her, then to Apollo before sighing and answering, "Yeah, sure. You're... not planning to try and escape, are you?"
Your party seems careful to answer. Isra takes this one, "Of course not! We are simply trying to get on with our task."
"Eh, fine by me." Elliot says, "But follow me first."

You walk behind Elliot through the caves, illuminated by his surprisingly bright "Light Device" (as he calls it) The walls look like they were made by unnatural forces, which is odd, but considering the peak is moving you assume they're just a byproduct of that. You touch them... and you could swear that they feel almost warm. As you follow Elliot, you hear bits of a whispered conversation between Apollo and Amanda. You may or may not be above eavesdropping, but they're the only one's talking so it's hard to not hear them.
"Elliot ... weird and kinda creepy ... Isra ... what did he mean by alive and friendly? ... Isra's so cool ... can we escape?"
You stop listening and they stop talking not too soon as the slope in the cave meets a sudden drop-off. Elliot looks down there and sees something he feels the need to mention.
"Hey people, don't go down there."
You walk up to the spot and see the drop-off is rather short, but you see a PERSON at the bottom of the small cliff. They don't seem to be moving, but you do hear wheezing noises.
"What... who... um... that?" Marshall stutters to your guide.
"It doesn't matter." He says, "Just remember, as long as you follow my lead you can get anywhere in these caverns. I bet in a while you'll be able to as well... maybe... three years? I guess you're all lucky I found you, this guy has been here a while and I'm not sure when he came in to begin with."
Nobody makes any further comments and you all follow him into a more narrow path to your left Eventually you end up in a room-looking area with a bed and a shelf full of books, an electronic clock with a notebook on a small table next to it. Behind the bed is a strange-looking machine.
"Well, we're here. This is my little cave home. We'll be packing up and moving along sometime tomorrow morning. I like to move around, I've found some real treasures here that I keep in my trove of sorts." He points to a large chest by the odd device. Nobody in your party asks further, and Elliot doesn't seem like he expected you to. His expression has gone back to the sort of excited one he had earlier.
"We still have some time before supper, do what you please, but don't get lost."
Your party begins to situate themselves. What will you do now? (if you decide to explore outside of camp, will you take anyone with you?)

    Noted.

You walk up to Elliot, of whom right now is taking out a set of pots and pans and putting them on and around the machine behind his bed. It looks cube-shaped, with lines going across it in four neat rows on each side. It's rusty and old, but it definitely still does some neat things. Elliot taps a spot on one of the rows, and out pops a small spigot (also old and rusty) which begins to fill up the pot with surprisingly crystal-clear water from earlier. He suddenly turns and talks to you,
"What? If you want to say something to me come out with it. Are you just gonna stare?"
Well that was rude. You ask Elliot if there are snakes in these caves, and if so, how the HECK has he survived for... however long.
"35 years, guy. Don't think me to be some old crazy man."
    ... indeed.
"I was gonna tell you and everyone how I made it out down here, but I'm feeling generous so I'll spare some of my own convenience for you. Do you see this contraption here?"
He points to the cube thing. You may or may not have nodded.
"I forget what it's called, where it's from, or how exactly it works, but it can do anything you would want or need. Look," He picks up the now-full pot of water, "the thing creates water out of nothing, which is really convenient. Now feel your hand here," he waves his right hand over the top of it, you might've done the same, "It also doubles as a stovetop and heater. Now do you get it? I've been living off of it for the past 35. It's light, and I'll show you what's more come next morning!" He pats it, then gives you a death glare, "DON'T bust it, or else we're ALL finished." Then he turns around and taps more buttons, of which spit out some good-looking vegetables. Min decides to scan it for you, sensing your inner 'what?'. Staying hidden, she completes the scan and talks about it in you head.
"I'm surprised I have data on this. What good ol' Elliot is using is an old survival teleporter, of which the name should say it all. Somewhere, it's bringing all survival essentials straight to him. My guess it's from some place in Santrito, the machine is used so that employees of them can survive on their own without them having to get it manually. Newer models have a video-feed for communication. This one does not. Heck, I'm surprised it's still functional. More surprised since this means Elliot has some connection to Santrito, but he wasn't lying about anything earlier, a fact that was painfully obvious to me, and he's not lying now."
Elliot turns back around to you in the middle of chopping the veggies, "Oh yeah, and about the snakes..." he furrows his brow as if trying to recall, "Nope. No snakes here." He goes back to chopping.
Min chimes in immediately, "I'm getting mixed readings. He's not lying, but he's leaving something out intentionally. Can't tell what, though. Oh yeah, also, since this guy is apparently from Santrito, I'd be grateful if you kept me a secret. Thanks."

With your foremost questions "answered", you decide to go and explore the mini-cliff from before. The prospect itself is a terrible idea if the guy who's been living here for decades advises against it, but you feel the URGE of EXPOLORARATIONorsomething. Since it's an awful idea as mentioned before, you take Marshall with you, of course.
"Why me?" Marshall says as you deftly slide down the edge of the cliff to the <insert name of Ruby's humanoid species here> body. You don't answer him.
As you approach the body, you notice that is has stopped making wheezing noises. That can't be good. What do you do now?

    Re: OshaliteX2's CYOA of stuff.

You explain to Marshall that, since he's a water salesman, he's uniquely qualified to get dragged off on whatever mission you say he's qualified for. He tries to respond, but only gets out with a stuttered "Ah--", then points at you, then looks upwards in thought, "Hmgh." before drooping his finger and face and sighing in acceptance(?). This is hard proof that your logic is flawless.
Then you have him check the pulse.
"Alright, now that's just downright lazy."
... Marshall says to you as he goes to check the pulse of the body. He flips their hand over and places his fingers on it, but quickly withdraws his hands with a loud yelp, followed by panicked speech,
"Th-that thing is hotter than boilin' soup! What in heck--?"
As he cuts himself off the body begins to wheeze again, the sound quickly begins to sound more like a crackling fire. Suddenly, the body glows a faint orange and lurches itself up into a standing position with a gut-wrenching "CKlkLrrRIGHLAH!!". Its arms begin to twitch, itself now standing straight up, and it turns to you in a jerked and painful motion.
It's skin is sicky pale and discolored with an orange glow to it. It's torso seems to be wearing normal clothes, but in the middle of its chest in a gaping hole that drips glowing lava. It's eyes are circles much larger than any normal eyes filled with billowing flames that you're surprised aren't burning it to cinders, and it's mouth is also filled with fire. The entire creature seems like its body is struggling to stay standing.
All of a sudden, it seems to actually notice you. It raises its arms and they begin to swing wildly in all different ways, like as if they were the flickering flames of a fire, its empty eye sockets fixated on you and Marshall.
    "CriCKlAGHABLaaGhH!!!"
"THAT IS NOT NORMAL." Marshall states.
The monster lunges at both of you. What does you do?

    Re: OshaliteX2's CYOA of stuff.

You duck under the lunge from the monster and kick it in the shin, causing it to stumble over and crash into the ground face-first.
    "CrkLlllrrrmmm..."
It groans and attempts rights itself in a lurching motion, as of a string was tied to its back. When you struck its leg, it broke and now the stub left is dripping lava. In essence, it's not particularly threatening anymore. Save for it's screeches.
    "CrkIKLAAGHAAA!!"
    Yep.
Oh wait, now it's trying to crawl towards you. It's arms do little good to drag itself forward due to sorely lacking coordination. It's almost sad. You motion to Marshall and point at the monster. He nods and summons a girl in a blue-white dress carrying a pail of water that is accidentally thrown onto the beast. It screams, "CHKCLARGRAABLALABALALBLGH!!", with subtitles translating its speech to "I'm meltiiiiiiiiiiiiing!!" before melting into a puddle of... of... um... doesn't matter. Soon after, a large group of munch--er, small people approach and begin to dance around and sing,

Ding Dong! The ??? is dead. Which old ???? The Wicked ???!
Ding Dong! The Wicked ??? is dead.
Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.
Wake up, the Wicked ??? is dead. It's gone where the goblins go,
Below - below - below. Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out.
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low.
    Let them know
    The Wicked ??? is dead!

Then the mayor and coroner come out and everyone sings with them.

As Mayor of the Snake Caves, In the County of the Land of Jorrah Mountain, I welcome you most regally.
But we've got to verify it legally, to see
    To see?
    If it
    If it?
    Is morally, ethic'lly
    Spiritually, physically
    Positively, absolutely
    Undeniably and reliably Dead
As Coroner I must admit, I thoroughly examined it.
And it's not only merely dead, it's really most sincerely dead.
Then this is a day of independence for all the people and their descendants
Yes, let the joyous news be spread The wicked old ??? at last is dead!

Then they all dance around and throw confetti and everyone celebrates with skipping and singing and the screen zooms out slowly to a big 'THE END' in a font you still can't find on your computer.

    Or maybe you're just crazy.
Now Marshall is looking at you rather puzzled-like with all your skipping. Wait, when did you start skipping? And when was the last time you slept? Two days ago?
    ... nah.

Nevertheless, the odd flaming monster that you almost felt sorry for is now an iced-over puddle of... mud. We'll call it mud. Marshall's water attacks did critical damage. Marshall then explains he Blizzard Blast-ed it afterwards for safe measure. Though it didn't take anywhere near a lick of hurt from you knocking off part of its leg. You look at it more closely. Its empty-eyed face is still staring straight up from its icy puddle. Without lack of a better word, it is extremely unnerving and you'd rather not think about it.
You look onwards away from the small cliff into the dark tunnels and a chill runs down your spine. Climbing back up should be a cinch... so what now?

    Re: OshaliteX2's CYOA of stuff.

As a symbol of your victory, you scoop up some mud in the vicinity and fire it to make a mud mask for yourself. Good for you. Now it's time to head back.
When you reenter Elliot's camp, he's just finished preparing dinner.
"There you are!" He turns towards you both, "I thought you two had gotten lost, even though I specifically told you not to! You folks might not be that dim after all... We should all eat now, I've made enough food for everyone, and it'll be impossible to travel next morning on an empty stomach."
He sets a plate of boiled veggies over a large blanket on the ground with little cushions for seats placed around it. He makes a dinner call, and before long everyone is seated and has begun munching on the meal. Over the course of dinner, Marshall is uncharacteristically silent, and you can't blame him because of what happened before. Perhaps you'll ask Elliot about the odd creature that attacked you once a chance arises. In fact, everyone eating is giving him worried looks except Elliot, of whom is sloppily eating a chunk of food. Apollo bumps Marshall from next to him in concern,
"Is anything bothering you? I mean, you don't have to tell. But...?"
"It's... I think it'd be better not to talk about it right this instant." Marshall gestures his head towards Elliot, then tries to change the subject by talking to him.
"So Elliot, you were sayin' that we were gonna pack up an' move out or some-the-like tomorrow? You seem to have a lotta stuff around. Mind if I ask how I assume you'd carry it around yerself?"
Elliot wipes his mouth of veggie scraps and sighs while looking Marshall straight on, "I'm going to show all of you tomorrow, but to answer it all goes inside THAT." He points to his old survival teleporter.
    "And... how exactly?"
    "I said I'd show you. I answered your question, didn't I?"
Marshall is offput by the response, and stares back down at his food with a short grumble. With him finished, Isra begins, "That does explain a lot, Elliot! Say, I remember you saying you had a collection of treasures. Could you tell us about those?"
    "Hmm. Hey, you're right. I'll--"
"Hold on a second there," Isra stops him, "if you are thinking of showing us now, that can wait until after we eat. Why do you not just tell us?"
"Okay then. As I go about my business in these caverns, I find these amazing orange crystal stones that I just feel obliged to pick up. They look really pretty. Actually, I'm positive we'll see one tomorrow on the way to the peak. They disappear regularly, so I never run out of room for them."
"Wow! That's amazing! I can barely wait to see them."
"Yep. All of you will be amazed by them..." Elliot trails off and continues eating. Afterwards, dinner continues without further discussion.

Elliot takes the dish from the center of the blanket without a word, signaling the end of the meal.
"Go to bed timely, people!" You hear Elliot say. According to him, it's getting close to bedtime. Everyone else is at their tents doing whatever now. Do you have anything you need to do before bed?

    Re: OshaliteX2's CYOA of stuff.

Bored of conversing with real people, you decide to further your boredom by scurrying back to your tent and performing an inventory check before you sleep.
You toss in the mud mask you made from earlier today and begin looking. Let's see... whoa, you still have the trail mix from whenever in here. It's probably still good. *munch munch* Yep. You put the rest of it back in your bag, savoring the powerful salty nut entrance followed close by a tangy fruity-chocolate sensation.
Oh, and there's Min. You wave. She winks. "What was it with you and that trail mix?"
Next to Min is that strange tech you found. Before Min--or anyone for that matter didn't know what it was, and that still hasn't changed. Maybe you'll figure it out soon.
And a Santrito Master Key. You've had this for ages, but the tech is so dated that nothing can use it. Maybe if you can find an older Santrito tech to try and use it, but even then you have a hunch that you already know most of what could be on it. It'd probably be better used for convincing/reminding/etc. someone about the whole Santrito deal. But then it might break. You should probably stick a note on that...
Then there are a bunch of potions and a few Volcano Hoppers. You know what? You give up. Bedtime.
    --
You materialize in a dreamscape that feels vaguely familiar with its blank light-blue-ness. Then again, something feels off.
    "Ruby?"
Out of nowhere, an even more familiar voice speaks to you, except you have no memory of ever hearing it before. You look around, but see nothing, yet the voice goes on.
"Oh good, you're up. That's one check off of the list--but like I can keep track of something like that, right? Haha. You know what day today is, right? Please tell me you didn't forget. You need to come too, you promised-" all of a sudden your surroundings are smothered in purple mist-like color for a second, and you can't hear the voice. Then it comes back, except now it sounds troubled "-Sometimes a promise is something that should be destroyed... I'm sorry."
    --
You bolt up in your sleeping bag to the feeling of cold water being poured on your head. At first you think it's Marshall, but now that you've been forced wide awake you can clearly see that it's Elliot.
"Up and at it, it's time to get moving."
It turns out that you're the last one up, everyone else is standing outside their tents with a wet head, al except for Isra, who even looks like she had time to get ready. Strangely enough, nobody has any of their things packed.
"Okay, everyone, Marshall, watch what I was talking about."
"Abut... whut?" Apollo mumbles with sleepy head nods and a crazy bedhead. Elliot ignores him and walks over to his survival teleporter and hits a few buttons. In an instant, everything around you disappears in the blink of an eye, save for everyone's bags and weapons.
    Wait--what??
"Did you miss it? Well, I'm positive you'll see more of it eventually. That there was how I tote all of my stuff throughout the caves. This thing just sucks up whatever we don't need in a hike and then sets it back up perfectly whenever I need it. Now come on, we need to get moving."
Everyone is taken aback by the sudden transition, but no one feels enough need to complain or question further. You feel like Min should've mentioned this. In short, you GET MOVING.

... Nothing of note has happened for the past five hours. Or however long. It's really hard to tell time without a cave--you mean without a sun. In a cave, it's hard to tell time without a sun in the cave. That sounds about right. You stopped for a lunch of un-boiled vegetables a while ago, and that's the only noteworthy thing to happen. The lack of events is more than likely beginning to get on your nerves. If anything, it had been on your nerves just moments after you got moving. Then all of a sudden, just as you may or may not almost start tearing your awesome hair out, Elliot holds up his hand and points to a shiny on the ground ahead of you.
"There's one of those crystals, people!"
You look ahead and see it. It's so small that if Elliot hadn't pointed it out, you wouldn't have seen it. The stone has a clear crystal-orange color with purple lines running inside of it, but in its center is a strange... thing that makes you feel faintly good and lively inside. You almost want pick up the crystal without second thought, but at the same time it gives off a creepy aura.
Elliot is way ahead on that second-to-last note, however. His expression of constant interest crumbles into an unnerving grin and he sprints wildly over to and dives towards the crystal. He picks it up and holds it to his face, staring straight into it, soon beginning to giggle quietly to himself.
Needless to say, your entire party is now EXTREMELY ON-EDGE about this guy now. "Is he okay?" Apollo asks to Isra and Amanda, who both are too unnerved to respond competently. Marshall takes matters into his own hands and walks over to Elliot, who is still giggling and staring at the shard.
"Elliot. Ya seem... uh--" he's stopped,
"Isn't it amazing??" Elliot says, still staring at it.
    "That's... well, I guess..."
    "HmmmHMMHMMHMMhmmhmm!"
"Ah..." Marshall looks back at the group for help. Nobody knows what's going on. You have Min scan to see what's happening to Elliot,
"For some reason he's in a state of pure bliss from looking at the crystal. That crystal, while you did feel its slight pull for a second, you also felt its dubiousness. My best guess is that Elliot has been using the feel-good properties of these crystals to sustain his will to live all this time. In fact, I think it's even stopping his body from aging just slightly as he does... that. It's like it has life-giving properties. Now please note, something somewhere in these caves is tied to it, which is why it's as ominous as it is and might also be what gives it this power. I would suggest leaving it, but I don't think Elliot will let that happen."
Elliot continues his creepy giggling for a short time after Min finishes, but the all of a sudden goes back to normal. He stops staring wide-eyed at the gem, and also has his old, interest-filled look back on his face. He takes the teleporter off of his backpack and hits a few knobs and buttons on it, the gem gets sucked inside and in a moment it's as if nothing even happened, and Elliot seems just as he was this morning.
"That was a neat find. Alright, let's keep going. The peak isn't going to reach itself!"
Your party silently decides that there's something weird about those crystals. You get an odd feeling that you'll find out before too long.

Some time passes on your hike until the air suddenly heats up. You hear a familiar screeching-groaning sound coming from up ahead. Elliot says nothing, but stops walking.
"Hmm. Fire People. Sounds like at least a dozen of the guys as well."
You and Marshall know somewhat of what he's talking about, but the others don't. What do you do in this situation?

    Re: OshaliteX2's CYOA of stuff.

    IT'S BEEN TEN THOUSAND YEARS
Wow I'm pretty sure that was extremely unoriginal. But then me saying that implies that I was original to begin with.

    You and Marshall exchange glances.
"I reckon now'd be a good time to... y'know, uh, Fire People?" he says in an undertone. You don't object, most of your group, while obviously assuming an upcoming fight, should probably learn what they're up against. But Elliot's already beating you to the punch before either of you can get a word,
"Alright people, so the Fire People aren't too shabby for making conversation. Their enunciation could use work," He says to your group, their looks turning to confusion and mixing with terror as the groan-crackling gets louder, "but as long as you keep some distance they're nice enough. Not near as nice as you folk, but that's not to say that most of you could use some work... oh look." He points to behind your group, "Here they come now. Follow my lead, they might be a bit much for newcomers."
With little time to process what was just said, a considerable horde of the "Fire People" come into view a bit farther down the corner. Elliot was right; there has to be at least 20 of the things. Everyone draws whatever weapon they have, and Elliot reaches upwards and behind to grab the spear he had on him. Assuming the weapon is for fighting off these monsters, why was he saying things about talking to them just now?
Well it seems like you're about to find out. He confidently waltzes up to them as they approach, trying to converse with them by yelling as he's still a ways away from the horde, "Hey!!! How're you doing?!!". I don't know why but this music just feels right for the situation.
You hear the crackle-groaning intensify for a second, and suddenly one of the Fire People staggers out of line and charges at Elliot with surprising speed. You hear him say "Whoa there," before nimbly sidestepping the charge and stabbing the monster in the back. When he does so, you see that its lava-filled torso becomes smothered by dirt and it soon collapses to the ground, extinguished. "Tsk, tsk. Rowdier than ever today." Elliot says, his spear unburnt and intact. He shifts his gaze towards your group, "Well what are you doing just standing there? Come and talk!"
Everyone is looking on with a blend of confusion and... mostly confusion, to be honest. The horde of Fire People is still a decent distance down the tunnel. What do you do now?

It has literally been almost a month. oh wait that's exactly what happened last time
Taking the head of the charge, you approach the horde of zombies cautiously. You arrive next to Elliot, of whom is gazing at you expectantly. Not to let him or your audience down, you start the conversation with an obligatory quip about how the Fire People are looking really hot (and other EXTREMELY FUNNY AND CLEVER ACTS OF COMMUNICATION).
Now, in a normal situation an extremely awkward moment void of any speech would follow. However, in this situation you are faced by a horde of presumably mindless undead flaming corpses and are accompanied by a mountain hermit who's a few logs short of a campfire.
In short, nothing really changed. The Flaming Folk are still getting closer at their unthreateningly slow pace. Two of them try to attack you; Elliot intercepts and takes them both out with ease before you can say "Toasty Cheerios".
"Huh, I think they like you!" He says as he removes his spear, "They don't usually make this much noise. Or maybe that's just 'cause there's a lot of them..."
Elliot is correct, at least at the last part of his statement. The Lava Lads still number above 20, but the group doesn't seem to be gaining size. The rest of your friends are still a ways back, away from any immediate danger.
The Burning Billybobs are still up for conversation. If anyone has any brighter ideas, go ahead. What does ya dew?

    Expecting an update?
... If that was the case, you may be psychic.

You attempt to say "Toasty Cheerios", but interrupt yourself by accidentally punching yourself in the face. Fortunately, the act of punching in general gave you an idea. Probably from the sudden head trauma.
You stop making bad extremely funny fire puns take the last of your generic Sweet Potions and soak your hand in it, then walk towards the Fire People slowly and calmly with confidence. They make the usual crackle-groan noises, but hesitate to attack for some reason. Igniting an Eagle Punch, you open your hand and extend a flaming handshake towards them from only a few yards away and suppress the great urge to shout "EAGLE HANDSHAKE!!!" (because doing so would more than certainly get you killed). The Fire People seem to be confused at this gesture. Either they figure you're one of them because of your firey palm, or they might just have some semblance of their former selves lurking inside of them.
Whatever your allies think of this, they aren't making a sound. The tension intensifies, what will your next action be?

I'm honestly surprised nobody suggested to scream "EAGLE HANDSHAKE".
Since none of the Sizzling Sams take your handshake, you decide to try and talk to them again. This time, you ask them to join you for a spot of tea. This does not blow over very well with them, and one tries to attack you. Since Elliot is a few paces back, you're forced to face it head-on. Without thinking you do the sidestep-leg-sweep from yesterday, causing its zombie legs to fall off and it to tumble onto its face. That's what it gets for trying to attack you by itself. Speaking of, you better do something in case more of the Fwoomy Fellas decide to get mad at you...
    Action?
In retrospect, you probably didn't have enough tea for 20+ of these things of begin with, and whoever throws a tea party where those who attend barely get a spoonful of tea is prone to be the subject of unflattering opinions (or in this case, certain death).

From now on I'm going to be trying my darndest to update weekly on either Saturday or Monday. I hope I manage to stick to that.
You attempt to punch one of the Molten Mortals. You are quickly killed by 20+ flaming zombies before you can say "Toasty Cheerios".
    GAM OOVER
    >Soft Reset
You throw all 2 of your iced teas straight at Elliot in a sudden, fluid motion. The delicious* beverage gets all over him, and like any normal person he opts to taste it before you can even tell him what it does. The moment it touches his lips... he smiles and comments on the flavor. Then he gets turned into a jello cube and plops on the ground.
This is not being made up, that is actually what happens. It's a good thing that he's the guinea pig for what happens when you mix two Iced Teas. What is it with those things and jelly effects? For those who forget, Iced Tea gives unspecified and unpredictable effects. Main page w/inventory thisaway.
Because Elliot is out of commission until the effects of that wear off, you'd best be careful. There's probably a really easy way to clear out a bunch of the Fire People before they get restless again, or if anything deter them away.
    Lights, camera?

It feels like a Monday to me... that's why I'm updating.
Miserable at the messy molten men making menacing movements marked mostly at you, you may well make a marvelous masterful market for mediation of mutual meeting of minds. Mining the Mud Mask from your mass you make your means clear to mitigate any misunderstanding with the mob. Mistrusting at first, the menage of molten men makes mild movements manifested from a misplaced mindset towards you. You move the mask from your mitts to the muck beneath you and march backwards. The mumbling of the molten men maintains, but at the moment it is made more mellow. Meekly, the most forward molten man meets itself with the mask and masters it, before moldering into the mud below in a sudden movement that makes you jump. After this, many more molten men make similar moves until only so many as eight have any manner to meddle with you. They don't make any measure towards the mud mask, maybe they misplaced most of or all of their mettle of mind? Maybe the molten men who melted moreover had minor marks of what they once might've been?
Make no mistake though, you might have to make a melee with the molten men who maintain a mean face. Most every of your magnanimous mates make haste to maid you as well.
    Manufacture your maneuver!

    Re: OshaliteX2's CYOA of stuff.

    Pokémon Sun and Moon hype.
You threaten to urinate on the Fire People, nothing really happens. You don't even get any puzzled sideways glances from your allies, which debatably is the weirdest thing to happen to you all day.
Amanda kicks the battle off by stepping forward and sending out a particularly powerful Tornado Blast directly into the horde of Fire People. Right before it reaches them, Marshall follows up and summons a huge mass of water and throws it directly into the vortex. The water gets caught and Marshall manipulates it to whip in and out of the tornado, striking anything in its vicinity at blinding speed. The Fire People are thwacked in many directions by the attack and scattered around the tunnel. One of them (C) is defeated while bearing the brunt of the attack, and the rest take 45 damage, which is quite impressive. The water spout peters out quickly though, and Marshall partway collapses from exhaustion. *NEW COMBO
The remaining Fire People have been displaced all around you, two behind, three in front, another a ways away, but one of them seems to have landed directly on top of Isra! She quickly disappears, at the cost of 6 HP, and you kick that particular Fire Person to the side. It charges at you, as most monsters do, but you're prepared. You Fire Up and do the old shin-kick technique from yesterday and send it faceplanting into the dirt, but fail to deal any damage (or knock off its legs). It should be noted how downright horrid Isra's luck seems to be...
All this time Apollo had been charging Irk-Thunda, and he's now ready to use it. He aims at the three Fire People directly in front of your group and lets loose a dazzling arc of magic that collects in between the zombies and deals 12 damage to each, though he probably won't be able to do that again before they charge at your group again.
Amanda has shifted to guarding your flank (as well as Jello Elliot; "Jelliot" if you will) since nobody else is, and has taken 20 damage.
    What a rush. Next move?

    Re: OshaliteX2's CYOA of stuff.

    Pokémon Sun and Moon MADNESS
You scream at the Fire People behind you and then dash to the dead Fire Guy C. He's crumbling quickly, but you still make an effort to pick up chunky dirt from where he was and whip it at B, D, E and G. You manage to get the attention of all of them except G, and they turn and start moving towards you pretty quickly. You, acting quicker, make an effort to punch B in the face as it shuffles into your thwacking distance. You make contact, but seem to have failed to do damage. What's more, your hand is now stuck in the face of the creature. The very lava-filled face of the creature. It burns.
The creature collapses into dirt from a well-timed Potato Shot by Marshall before this becomes particularly relevant, however. Marshall proceeds to pick off D and E, both of which had their backs exposed and within his pew-pew-ing Cosmog? range. You took but 10 damage from a poorly-placed thwacking.
Changing perspective to your flank, Amanda is pretty badly singed from fighting these things. Their wild and unpredictable means of attack have made it hard for her to get in any good swings. The moment Marshall finished his move, Amanda had been knocked down by Fire Person F. H is up close and slashing at her, and she's doing the best she can to block. But one can only block for so long. She thinks herself finished, but just as soon a scarf whips out from behind her and slaps H a few steps back. In quick tandem, Isra materializes out of nowhere and deals a critical strike to F's back, draining 11 damage and poisoning it; it'll be finished by next turn's end. Then in even quicker tandem, Amanda springs off the dirt and delivers a opportunistic slash to the legs of H, effectively hacking them off. When H collapses face-first, she swiftly stabs it through the back, taking it out. Amanda had taken another 10 damage.
Now Fire People A and G are dangerously close to your group. G is attacking Marshall and has dealt 13 damage, while A is trying to get within scratching range of Apollo but is being fended off by some artful scarfplay.
With that all that going on, Jelliot is still Jelliot.
I... can't think of anything clever to say in place of "Next action?".

Woo woo here comes the update train~
You jump, flip, and land behind Fire Person A. You grab it by the torso and chuck it at Fire Person G, they collide and fall some feet away and you charge over and dropkick into G while it attempts to stand. Then you grab A again, this time throwing it to Marshall who blasts it away with a jet of water to Apollo who lassos it with his scarf and throws it to Amanda who slaps it with the broad edge of The Cutter to Isra who cuts it in half all ninja-like in an epic finisher.
    What a showoff.
Though that might've been a good thing, Fire Person F was so busy watching this that it forgot it was poisoned (not that it knew to begin with). By the time you turn around its already dead.
    VICTORY!!!
You all exchange high-fives and handshakes and whatnot. You find some pocket change from the dirt piles left from the Fire People... weird. +2000 Pwaants
"That was pretty good." Min says after zipping out. " I especially liked the finish. That matter aside, Elliot should be turning back into a person really soon now..."
Min goes back into your bag, seemingly to stay hidden. True to her hypothesis, Elliot poofs back to normal before you can say "Toasty Cheerios". He pauses to take in the scene before speaking,
"... why are you people staring at me? And what happened to all the Fire People?"
"Just stand up and continue leading, it is not important" says Isra to his question. Elliot just scratches his head and does exactly what Isra says, because why wouldn't he? At this point you've practically gotten used to it.
    And so the walking continues...

Presumably the same day your peaceful stroll is quite rudely interrupted by a GIANT TREMOR.
It shakes the tunnel like a smoothie, you can literally feel the ground move up and down under your feet; you lose balance and fall down on your forearm. The shaking continues for a few more seconds but then stops.
"Are you clumsy people all right?" Yells Elliot to the rest of your group, though it's irking that he calls you that even though he's fallen down flat on his side. In fact, the only people who were able to avoid collapse are Isra and Amanda, the former appearing out of thin air (as she seems to do) and Amanda levitating using her magic while stifling a slight urge to strangle the old man.
You all recuperate and seem to have come out unscathed, but looking ahead the remaining trek has been cut. There's a HUGE chasm where the path forward once was.
"Ohhhh boy that's not good," Apollo is first to say, "how do we continue now?? Oh, Marshall!"
    "Mehuh?"
"Can you make us one of those... those ice bridges you did back in that one cold spot? Please?"
"Whoa there Apollo, slow yerself down... First o' all, don't remind me of that place. Second, that only worked because of the cold climate. These caves would defrost any ice several times over."
"Oh. Well... then how about you Amanda?" He turns to his sister, "Can you fly us over?"
"Y'know Apollo I was just thinking the same thing... but look at the size of that ravine, I wouldn't be able to carry both myself and someone else across that."
    "Oh." He slumps.
Now everyone turns to Elliot. Maybe he knows a detour?
"No can do, folks. Maybe you should just try going down?"
"You would advise that?" Asks Isra.
"Well no, that looks like some serious unexplored territory. I probably wouldn't be able to find a way to the peak from down there..." He furrows his eyebrows. Everyone grimaces.
So... what do you do? Try to find a way over the chasm, or venture into the deep, unexplored, and potentially unnavigable Snake Caves?

    Re: OshaliteX2's CYOA of stuff.

Midnight Christmas update! I should be asleep...
So if you can't be carried over... perhaps it's a better idea to try something a bit more powerful? That's the idea that the voices in your head are saying. You ask Amanda if she could possibly use her magic to launch your group across the gap. She makes a face at your question.
"You want me to BLOW everyone across? I'm... not sure if I can..." She ponders, looks into the pit, ponders some more, and then shudders.
"Well I guess there's only one way to find out."
    ...
"All right everyone! Make sure you keep yourselves spread out and don't let yourself be blown over!" Amanda instructs as you and your friends line up along the edge of the chasm. You don't have to wait long, soon you feel the strongest gust you've ever experienced blow at your back and pick you off your feet before you can say "Tornado Froot Loops". You've effectively started to fly over the huge chasm, neat! You hear your party's surprised exclamations as they start soaring (so to speak) as well.
As you fly, you look down into the murky depths of the cave. Suddenly you feel something calling you from down there, but it's probably nothing. ...
Now you're halfway across the chasm, perhaps it wouldn't hurt to venture down and see? ...
Almost to the other side. Maybe just a closer look... ...
    ...
    "AAAHHHH!! AUGGGHHHHHHH!!!"
A piercing scream from Apollo snaps you out of your thought, forcing you to realize that you are NOT on the other side of the chasm and are FALLING RIGHT INTO IT. Apollo's falling too! But why?? You were definitely almost to the other side of the chasm and--
    OOF.
You acquaint yourself nicely with the ground and take a painful 30 damage. Getting up, you can't see a thing. You call out for Apollo, but it seems he's vanished... in fact, you don't sense anyone else either.
This must mean you're in the lower Snake Caves. Aw man.
You look around and still fail to see anything, it's pitch black. Everything is silent and you're all alone.
    "What was that?"
Scratch that last part, you're apparently not. Min zips out as if on cue and illuminates the surrounding area, revealing an abundance of those strange orange crystals you saw earlier lining the walls and a path leading forward. You look back, but a rockslide seems to have walled the way up in case you wanted to try and call help. But... there definitely wasn't one of those before. You would've at least heard it. Something seriously fishy is going on...
"You can say that again. That is no natural rockslide, something caused those to fall there. Or, more accurately, move to there. Whether or not this is your fault, this certainly a pickle we're in."
Right on the nose as usual. What do you do now?

    Re: OshaliteX2's CYOA of stuff.

It's finally time for this CYOA to fully move to #kun forums.
    Here's the link: Boop.
Though I'm pretty sure everyone from here who read my CYOA is now reading it on #kun... so... WELP.
I will miss how much easier it is to type up updates on BitForums, however. #kun just isn't as good in that regard.
Farewell, my BitForums CYOA. You will be missed.
