I was watching some Indycar racing just a little bit ago and saw a nasty crash. Dan Wheldon was only 33.

    Heavy D died, everyone T_T

Sure, you don't expect Yami Gekusu to be a rap fan, but she was a fan of late '80s and early '90s rap. Heavy D was one of my all time favorites... Now she I am sad.

    Re: The Obituary.

Bil Keane (of the Family Circus fame) passed away. Read here: http://www.toronto.com/print/703775

It is a sad day in the world of newspaper comic strips, especially those that promote traditional family values. Though I may not find the comic strip humorous (and is often ridiculous from the atheist viewpoint, given that the comic strip promoted Catholic values), I found the strip as a refreshing alternative to the doom and gloom of Western popular culture. To me, the Family Circus is a beacon of hope and optimism in the sea of fear and pessimism for just over half a century, despite not agreeing with some of its message.

I find the Nietzsche Family Circus funny however (it has the illustrations of the usual comic strip, except that the captions are quotes from various works by the German philosopher).

    Here this cute dog is.

Dunno if it really diserves a post but its a death.
The oldest dog, hopefully he lived a good life.

I'm not a conservative of any kind. A faction willing to take the risks of making war on the ossified status quo in the Middle East can be described as many things, but not as conservative.

It's not obvious whether his self-image is accurate, since he seems to imply that Bush/Cheney aren't conservative either. But to the extent that American conservatism is wedded to right-wing Christianity obviously he was not that. I don't think supporting the Iraq war or opposing Jihadism makes one a neo-conservative.

To be fair, Christopher Hitchens was a Briton. In Britain, I believe that neo-conservatism is different from that in North America.

I read about Christopher Hitchens and his militant atheism. Interestingly, his younger brother, Peter, is a Christian social conservative. Therefore, it is no surprise that both are conservative in some ways.

The distinguishing feature of a neoconservative is a love for regime change on the realm of geopolitics. Somebody who thinks the Iraq War was justified and suffers the misconception that Jihadism can be aptly named "Islamofascism" is a neocon (or worse, but not in his case). His economic leftism has been heavily on the wane as well anyway, so there was not much in the way of that either. Plus, he wouldn't be the first non-Christian neocon.

Davy Jones of The Monkees died at 66. They were awesome. I'm probably going to watch a bunch of episodes from their TV show later.

Ralph McQuarrie, the concept artist for the Star Wars, has passed away at the age of 82. To lose him so soon after losing Kersh is certainly a heavy blow to all Star Wars fans.

Damn, really? That seriously sucks. I'm going to go and read through my Concept Art of the Phantom Menace booklet I got with my version of the movie now in honor of him.

He were not hanged. He would not answer aye or nay to his indictment; for if he denied the charge they'd hang him surely, and auction out his property. So he stand mute, and died Christian under the law. And so his sons will have his farm. It is the law, for he could not be con-demned a wizard without he answer the indictment, aye or nay... Great stones they lay upon his chest until he plead aye or nay. They say he give them but two words. "More weight," he says. And died.
