~The Official BitF Fan Art Contest -- June 2010 Edition~

Attention all artists! In case you haven't noticed yet, the main Brawl in the Family page now has a Fan Works section for your enjoyment. Right now, it's a little empty, and I'd like for you guys to fill it!

So starting now, we'll be having an art competition once a month, every month. The winner will be immortalized in BitF history by having his or her art forever featured in the Fan Works section! But remember--we'll need a solid number of entries to work with, so if we don't get enough for the month, we might have to judge those entries with the next month's.

Now then, onto DA RULES:

-Any and all media is fine. Draw/scan, paint, do digital images, whatever! You can post big ol' wallpaper-sized images or even straight-up comics! The only limit is your imaaagination.

-Keep it pleasant. For content, a good rule of thumb is don't show or say anything in the art that you'd never find in a Nintendo-published game or a BitF strip. So keep it a light PG at worst, please.

-Post it here! You may email or PM us images if you'd like, but it's easiest if you just post your artwork here in this thread for judging. Deadlines will be 11:59 PM on the last day of the month in question.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Chris and I will be taking a good, long look at all the entries. Or a cursory glance as the case may be. They'll be judged on composition, adherence to the theme, use of color/shading (if applicable), use of humor (if applicable), and just...like, if it's any good.

Also, feel free to submit multiple entries, but you're limited to three per contest!

Now then, let's get onto the current contest--JUNE 2010! We'll kick off the first edition of the BitF Fan Art Contest (we originally wanted to call this the "BitFArt Contest", but decided against it) with something pretty simple and open to interpretation.

This month's theme:
Art must center around Kirby and King Dedede.

That's it! Just make a spiffy-looking work involving these two characters. They can be engaged in a battle of wits, a battle of strength, or a battle of friendship. Or whatever, your call. The deadline will be at the end of June, so get drawing!

I had a bit of trouble drawing the anime sweat drop for the last panel.

There we go. Imageshack is useful. Never used it before. As i stated before that's an anime sweat bubble on the candle in the last frame, i just drew it badly.

I guess it's not really June yet, but I guess being early doesn't really hurt anything.
So I made a drawing based on Kirby Squeak Squad. Hand drawn, scanned, colored in GIMP.



In this alternate ending, it turns out Kirby was actually right all along. That wily Dedede!

I like how you used the bunny hood and super scope in that second one. Elmer Fudd for SSB4.

What is Kirby's "title", you may ask?

Either "Kirby of the Stars" or, well, his "main character status" of both the games and BiTF, I guess.

Just finished. I'm not the artistic type, but this came out good. Things you might notice:

-One of DDD's sleeves is WAAYYY smaller.
-DDD's pose is from his idle in SSBB, and Kirby's is from the opening/ending sequence.
-I forgot to marker a certain area on DDD...
-One of DDD's stripes are wrong.

Even though I'm not really the arsty-farsty kind of dude, I tried, using a strange combo of Paint and MS Word, to express a great idea I had.



It's my very first actual artwork, so I'm not really trying to win this contest so much as be better at Paint. Hope I win anyways. :P

And yeah--while it's not quite June yet, all submissions up until the end of June will be for the June contest. To address another question, it doesn't have to be in color, but if full color makes it look better, don't hold back!

I'd like to make a general suggestion that applies to the current entries: it'd be a good idea to make the images a little larger if possible.

Not quite--they'll be showcased in the Fan Works section in full, then will get a spot in the new Fan Works archive in that individual section (it'll be browse-able like in the Characters page).

Keep in mind that images in both comic form and standard single image form are acceptable and welcomed!

well It would take awhile to color it all, but I'll just people's faces. also is this big enough.

sorry if it is hard to read... It looked better on paper... Yep, there's alot of detail like cap. falcon's helmet,the door is cracked so Dedede can get in,the reason kirby fights wispy woods every time, and such. there's a second one I'll post later as this is so big.(a hint: it includes Clean Kirby!)

Just finished the rought outline of my submission. Just another quick question- are there any size restrictions? Mine turned out to be over 2000 pixels tall. O_O

There are no size restrictions, although I may resize some a bit if I feature them on the site and they happen to be HUUUGE, but something about the size of meddling minion's art would be just fine.

The main reason I think larger pieces may work better is because it'd be nice if the winners' submissions could double as wallpapers for site visitors. Of course, that doesn't mean smaller images would be disqualified or anything!

EDIT: Also, to all artists: this thread will be linked to in the Fan Works section, so even if your work doesn't get chosen, it'll still get viewed by a lot of visitors just from posting here!

here's the other one! It was on the back of the last one... I hope the semi-colored look doesn't dededuct points away from my score.

Don't get confused Kirby, he meant Mario... The last panel should be considered a bonus comic, as I had an extra space. I also couldn't make Dedede's "throne" throney enough...
I have another idea, as a joke on the 'Hey Mr. Owl Tootsie roll pop commercial' but alas it has no Dedede...
